Born Free 6

Just outside of the crush of the city, in a canyon that holds its footing against expansion, that protects its mountain from suburbia, there’s a field full of motorcycles. And a crowd full of the people who love them. The otherwise beastly hunks of metal become spirit animals brought to life through the transformation of obsession. The first year I went, I documented like an explorer. Photos of everything, watching the people with anthropological intensity, mentally noting every detail of every little thing, and then taking 12 pictures of it just in case I forgot what it felt like. Everything hit me hard and poetically.

This sixth installment of Born Free found me ambling through softly, like a sigh, easily drifting without fixating. Tasting and savoring with soft eyes. An overall sensation to be languished in, rather than a bounty to be systematically ravaged by fresh, hungry eyes. A little less self aware. A little more free. A couple beers and a shade tree, a conversation or two, and just a handful of pictures of things that really caught my eye. A little more free space on my phone. A little more free space in my mind.

Everybody here’s just looking to be liberated. And they’re doing something to achieve it.

We may be born free. Surely we’re free when we die. And in between, we ride motorcycles.

Cool blog. Good writing! I like the “The Life of a Painting” idea, documenting the creative process. Great sketching. I really like the abstract look and colors.

    Nice job!
